* This fragment quite clearly starts with the marriage of a James Lovelock to Mary Elizabeth Griffiths, but although Mary appears 
in both the 1841 and 1851 Census Returns James does not seem to have been recorded in either. In 1851 Mary was apparently still married. 
There was the death of a James in 1858 in the Epsom RD, and in 1861 Mary is recorded as a widow, but putting 2 and 2 together with those 
facts will only end up making 5.

A copy of the 1858 death certificate has revealed that that James was a Brickburner aged 88 from the Union Workhouse in Epsom. In 1851 
there was a James Lovelock aged 77 in the Epsom Union Workhouse, a Brick Maker, but recorded as a pauper, who seems most likely to be 
the man who died in 1858.

If the 1858 death is supposed to be of Mary's husband a couple of questions arise. Why was he a Pauper in the Workhouse in 1851 when she 
was accommodated elsewhere in the town with 3 children, and working as a washerwoman? Could he really have married Mary at the age of 54, 
when she was only 18, and fathered their last child in 1845 at the age of 75?

A more likely scenario is that there must be another James somewhere, possibly the son of the man who died in 1858.

The 1851 entry states that the man in the Workhouse was born in Guildford, but the only Guildford baptism on the website is for 1908 so that 
does not help to identify him at all. A near possibility is the James Lovelock, son of John (and presumably Sarah) from the 
Swallowfield-Heckfield-Worplesdon tree who was baptised at Stoke-next-Guildford in 1777. The 1851 and death certificate entries of 
course suggest a birth in the 1769 - 1775 range.
