Current and Historical Projects |
This page describes projects which have helped or will help to fill some of the gaps in our records. Volunteers were sought to help with the work of extracting or transcribing records, and are still sought where the projects are incomplete.
- The Parish Records Project
The objective of this project is to complete the collections of "Lovelocks by Parish" for different English and Welsh counties. Robert Sterry has done a magnificent job of compiling collections for a large number of those counties, with input from several fellow-contributors, but we still have by no means complete collections for all of the counties.
- The Census Project
The objective of this
project is to gather as complete a collection as possible
of Lovelock census extracts from the English and Welsh
counties. - The 1939
Register Project
The objective of this, our latest major project, was to gather as complete a collection as possible of Lovelocks and Lovelucks from the English and Welsh counties who were included in the 1939 Register.
By the end of 1938 the Government of the day had decided that war was a distinct possibility and so in December of that year an announcement was made to the effect that a National Register would be taken to record details of every civilian in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Register was to form the basis of Identity Card and Rationing schemes, and later was used in the embryonic stages of the UK's National Health Service.
As the 1931 Census was almost completely destroyed in World War 2 and the Census due in 1941 was not taken the Register represents the only national overview we have of Lovelocks and Lovelucks in Great Britain between 1921 and 1951. Registration Day, when all the data was collected, was 29th September 1939.
The Lovelock and Loveluck entries were transcribed from the imagery at Findmypast by Sue Lovelock with some assistance from Graham Lovelock.
- National Probate Calendars Extracts
- Unsolved Lovelock Tree Attributions
Lovelock extracts from the National Probate Calendars were transcribed some considerable time ago. However, it has not yet proved possible to attribute the subject of each extract to one or other of our family trees. Those extracts still looking for a 'home' are contained in the table accessible through this link. If you are able to identify to which of our family trees any of the individuals 'belong' please let us know through the Discussion Group
- The Gravestones Project
Many Lovelocks have been commemorated by the headstones erected on their graves. We have a small collection of photographs of these, but welcome any additions that you may be able to offer. If you are able to help please let us know through the Discussion Group.
Barring entries which have been indexed under undetected variants of 'Lovelock' or 'Loveluck' we believe we have now completed this project for all Census years from 1841 to 1921, excluding an exercise to identify wherever possible which of our family trees each entry 'belongs' to.
There are still a considerable number of entries in each set of Census Returns which it has not yet proved possible to allocate to one or other of our family trees and any help to positively identify the persons in these entries will be much appreciated.
