Wiltshire within England
On 25 March 1910 "The Andover Advertiser" published the following:

'At a recent gathering of Wiltshiremen in London, Mr Spencer Leigh Hughes, MP, attributed the erection of Stonehenge to Adam, and deduced from it that Wiltshire was the original Paradise. Some support to the claim is given by the fact that a portion of the Down near Grateley Station is known as Palestine, and the way our first parents travelled when they left Stonehenge may be indicated by the knowledge that a portion of Broughton is still known as Hell Corner. Following up these premises it would appear that Stockbridge must have been near the site of the original land of Nod. Now Mr Hughes has put us right as to the origin of things the reason why some things are as they are in certain parishes becomes more obvious.'

Be that as it may we trust that the Wiltshire data accessible below is factual and free of all such aspersions !
